Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at RMAC Championship Tournament

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team finished fourth overall at the 2019 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship Tournament.  The three-day, 54-hole tournament was held at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz.  The Mountain Lions shot a 284 today to bring their tournament total to 849 (-3).
 
The fourth-place finish secured the 2018-19 Steel and Silver Series win.  UCCS finished four spots ahead of CSU-Pueblo (eighth place, 873) to earn four points toward the series win.  UCCS has outscored the Pack this season in series points, 36-16.
 
Jack Duguid recorded a ninth-place finish with a one-under par 212.  Duguid opened the tournament with a 72 before shooting a 68 in Monday's round to top off today's play with another 72.
 
Clay McCrory (72, 73, 69) and Peter Johns (70, 71, 73) each finished the tournament scoring a 214 to finish 16th overall.  McCrory notched 37 pars in three rounds, the fourth most by any golfer. 
 
Ignacio de La Vega rounded out the Mountain Lions scorers with a three-over par 216 to place 20th overall.  de La Vega shot a 77 today after recording a 72 and 67 in the first two rounds.
 
Isaac Spillum was one stroke behind de La Vega after posting four birdies today, including a 70 today, his lowest round of the tournament.
 
As a team, UCCS finished second in par 3 scoring with a 3.07 average, and third for most birdies (48).
 
Colorado School of Mines won the 10-team tournament after carding an 826, 26 strokes under par.  Dixie State University finished one stroke behind the Orediggers.  The Trailblazers were led by the individual champion Nicklaus Britt who posted a 13-under par 200.
