CHANDLER, Ariz. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team improved by seven strokes today to move up one spot to No. 3 after two rounds of the 2019 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship Tournament, held at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz. UCCS has a two-day total of 565 (278, 281) and are six strokes behind second place Dixie State University.
Colorado School of Mines holds the team lead with a 552. DSU's Nicklaus Britt is currently the individual leader after shooting a 134 (66, 68).
Ignacio de La Vega posted five birdies and shaved five strokes off from yesterday's round. Tied for the lead in par 3 scoring (2.75 average), de La Vega is tied for seventh place overall with a 139 (72, 67).
Jack Duguid and
Peter Johns are also in the top 10 standings. Duguid has sole ownership of ninth place after posting five birdies today and improving by four strokes. Duguid, who has 10 birdies in two rounds, has shot a 140 (72, 68). Johns is one stroke behind Duguid and in 10
th place with a 141 (70, 71).
Clay McCrory's two-day total of 145 puts him in a tie for 19
th place.
Isaac Spillum is just outside the top four scorers from UCCS with a 147. Spillum posted three birdies today to card a 73.
Johns, Spillum and de La Vega have each shot 24 pars in two days, the third most in the field. Three different Mountain Lions recorded three birdies today on holes No. 3, 10, 11 and 15.
The third and final round of the tournament will begin Tuesday morning at 7:47 a.m.
