Men’s Golf in Fourth Place after Opening Round of RMAC Tournament

CHANDLER, Ariz. – All four scorers for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team are within two shots of each other as the Mountain Lions opened the 2019 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship Tournament with a 286, the fourth-best score in the 10-team tournament.  The 54-hole, three-day tournament is being played in Chandler, Ariz. at the Ocotillo Golf Resort.
 
Colorado School of Mines recorded a seven-under 277 to take the lead after day one.  Dixie State University and Westminster College are one stroke behind the Orediggers and tied for second place.  Colorado Christian's Chase Carlson is the individual leader after today's round, scoring a six-under par 65.
 
Peter Johns opened the tournament with a one-under 70.  Johns posted four birdies on holes No. 1, 8, 12 and 15 and is sitting in a tie for eighth place.
 
Jack Duguid, Clay McCrory and Ignacio de La Vega are each tied 16th place after carding 72's in the first round.  Duguid's five birdies are the fifth most in the field and he is tied for second in par 5 scoring (4.33 average).  McCrory chipped in birdies on holes No. 8, 9 and 16, while de La Vega is tied for the lead in par 3 scoring (2.50 average).
 
Isaac Spillum is two strokes behind the top four Mountain Lion golfers, owning a 74 after round one.  His 14 pars in the tournament are tied for the lead.
 
UCCS will begin round two on Monday.  Spillum will tee off first for UCCS on hole No. 1 at 7:47 a.m.
