CHARLOTTE, N.C. – May 26, 2018 – University of Colorado Colorado Springs sophomore
Skylyn Webb is the 2018 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Champion in the women's 800m run. Webb set a new meet and championship record with a time of 2:02.47 Saturday afternoon. She is the first women's outdoor track and field student-athlete at UCCS to win a national championship.
Along with Webb, five more Mountain Lions earned All-America honors on Saturday at the championship meet, hosted by Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C.,
Starting the competition on Saturday was the men's 4x100m relay team of
John Douglas,
Deshon Elcock,
Caleb Simons, and
LaChristopher Smith who earned All-American honors with a seventh place finish, crossing the finish line in 40.78 seconds.
Following the men's 4x100m relay,
Molly Klotz placed eighth out of 12 runners in the women's 1500m finals to earn All-American honors. Klotz recorded a time of 4:27.39.
Freshman
Sierra Suazo closed out the Mountain Lions performances on Saturday. Suazo recorded a mark of 36.00m in the Discus.
The UCCS women's team recorded 11 points, while the men's team finished the meet with two points.
