GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Nature's Bakery Invite over the weekend, which was hosted by Colorado School of Mines.
On the men's side,
Caleb Simons was the top Division II finisher in the 400m, taking third with a time of 47.77 seconds. Simons was just behind Colorado State's Ronald Sayles (47.11) and Egyptian Anas Besher (46.92), who competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The 4x100m relay team took first place with an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 40.79 seconds, edging out Colorado State (41.01).
Other notables were Johnathan Douglas taking fourth place in the 100m (10.83 seconds),
LaChristopher Smith placing fifth in the 200m (21.91 seconds), and David Higgins earning third in the 800m (1:56.92).
For the women,
Skylyn Webb followed up last week's fastest 800m performance in the nation by posting the fastest 400m time in all of Division II with second place finish. Her time of 54.79 seconds which is a provisional qualifying time.
Other highlights for the Mountain Lions included
Hannah Meek, who won the triple jump (11.76m) while also placing second in the long jump (5.66m).
Kaija Crowe won the heptathlon with a combined score of 4,926 points for UCCS as
Andi Harrelson was second in the javelin (35.96m).
Both teams are back in action next Saturday at the CSU-Pueblo Open.
