PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's outdoor track & field teams opened their season at the CSU-Pueblo Early Bird on Saturday.
On the men's side,
LaChristopher Smith won both the 100m (10.75 seconds) and the 200m (21.91 seconds). Teammate Jonathan Douglas took second in the 100m, crossing the finish line in 10.87 seconds.
The duo, along with
Zaccre Kenward and Caleb Simon won the 4x100m relay with a time of 40.93 seconds.
Other men's winners on the track included
David Kimaiyo in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:48.09) and
Cody Harris in the 400m hurdles (57.94 seconds).
In the field events,
Derek Valdez won the high jump (2.10m), William Ross took the long jump (6.97m) and triple jump (14.65m) as Colton Harkins won the javelin with a throw of 51.02m.
On the women's side,
Skylyn Webb earned an automatic qualifying time of 2:05.24 in the 800m.
Other winners on the track included the 4x100m relay team of
Kamerin Valdes,
Kayla Zink, Nicole Morpugo, and
Michaela Moore with a time of 47.96 seconds. The 4x400m relay team also won the event, crossing the line in 4:01.07.
The two teams will be back in action in two weeks when they return to the Thunder Bowl to take part in the CSU-Pueblo open.
