GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs indoor track & field teams made history Saturday afternoon as the women's team captured their first-ever championship as the men's team placed second overall.
The women's team scored 118 points as they edged out Western State by a single point. Adams State took third with 102 points.
UCCS was led by
Skylyn Webb to won the 800m with a provisional time of 2:12.36 while taking second place in the 400m with a provisional time of 56.57 seconds.
Webb, along with
Kaija Crowe,
Molly Klotz, and
Dejah Glover took second in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:56.25.
In the field events, Crowe won the high jump with a mark of 1.65m while also winning the pentathlon with a provisional score of 3,604 points.
On the men's side, UCCS scored 90.5 points as Colorado School of Mines ran away with title by scoring 151.50 points. Western State was third as they scored 86 points.
William Ross won the triple jump after leaping 14.80m on his final attempt.
Zaccre Kenward took third as
DePree Kimber placed fifth as the team scored 20 points in the event.
The 4x400m relay team of
LaChristopher Smith,
William Mayhew,
Caleb Simons, and Kenward earned 10 points as they won with time of 3:22.13.
Mayhew took fourth in the 800m with a provisional time of 1:55.54.
The Mountani Lions also picked up plenty of points in the sprints as Smith placed third in both the 60m (6.87 seconds) and 200m (22.69 seconds).
Sheldon Downs placed third in the shot pot as the sophomore recorded a throw of 15.87m.
