The women's team took first place as the men's team placed second

GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs indoor track & field teams put together another strong performance on Saturday at the Colorado School of Mines' DII Invitational & Multi.

The women's team took first place as the men's team placed second, just three points behind the hosts and the nation's top-ranked team in the latest USTFCCCA Coaches Poll.

The Mountain Lions earned an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time in the 800m as Skylyn Webb won the event with a time of 2:11.90, beating out the second-place finisher by nearly four seconds. The time converts to 2:08.81 based on altitude, is the fastest time in the all of Division II.

Kayla Zink earned a provisional time of 7.66 seconds in the 60m prelims before winning the finals while doing the same in the 200m with a time of 26.23 seconds.

In the field events, Alexis Carrol won the triple jump with a provisional mark of 11.87m. The freshman also placed second in the long jump and 60m hurdles.

Fellow freshman Kaija Crowe also earned a provisional score in the pentathlon with a winning total of 3,476 points.

The distance medley relay team of Molly Klotz, Dejah Glover, Kayla Wooten, and Webb placed second while earning the nation's fifth fastest result with a provisional time of 12:09.03.

UCCS, who are currently ranked No. 8 in the nation, defeated No. 7 New Mexico Highlands who placed second overall by 62.5 points.

The men's team saw William Mayhew take first place in the 800m with a provisional time of 1:54.05, winning the event by four seconds.

Sprinter Caleb Simons was a double winner for the Mountain Lions, winning both the 200m and 400m events. 

Jumper Derek Valdez earned a provisional mark in the high jump, taking third place with a height of 2.05m. His teammate Zaccre Kenward also earned a provisional mark in the triple jump with a distance of 14.71m on his final attempt.

Matt Hanson won the 60m hurdles for the Mountain Lions with a time of 8.63 seconds. 

As a team, UCCS finished ahead of No. 14 CSU-Pueblo and No. 18 Colorado Christian.

Both teams will travel to Boulder, Colo. next weekend to take part in the Colorado Open.
