GUNNISON, Colo. – Andi Harrelson improved her NCAA provisional qualifying mark with 136 feet, five inches, in the javelin as part of her fifth-place heptathlon performance to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on a shortened second day of the 2017 RMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She finished the heptathlon with 3,970 points.

Harrelson improved her previous season best by nearly three feet and improved to No. 32 in the NCAA Division II performance lists. She will compete again in the open javelin on Tuesday morning for a chance to move further up the list. Harrelson followed with a season-best 2 minutes, 39.65 seconds, in the 800-meter run, and improved from sixth to fifth in the heptathlon standings in the process. She scored 129 points more than her previous heptathlon April 7-8, at West Texas.

Rylee Ries finished eighth with 3,724 points, and scored points for the Mountain Lions in the team standings. She posted outdoor bests in the long jump with 15-3 ¼, and in the 800-meter run with 2:40.81, an improvement of more than 14 seconds for her outdoor best.

Makenzie Urban ran her second career 3,000-meter steeplechase today and finished No. 11 in 12:24.76. UCCS had athletes in action in the pole vault before a third lightning delay suspended action. The discus throw was unable to start, and the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles, will be contested as timed finals on Tuesday.

Competition will resume at 9 a.m., on Tuesday, with the discus. Track events will begin at 10:05 a.m., with the 4x100-meter relay.
