Wooten Ends Stellar Season at NCAA Track & Field Championships

The freshman mad her third NCAA appearance of the year for UCCS

BRADENTON, Fla. – Freshman Kayla Wooten wrapped up her stellar first season for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's track & field team with a performance in the 1,500m at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships at IMG Academy.

Wooten finished the race in 10th place with a time of 4:35.32 after running in the second heat, which sent seven of the 12 qualifiers to the upcoming finals on Saturday.

The freshman started out well in the faster of the two heats, staying in second place for the first 700m of the race. However, she was unable keep the pace and fell back from the lead runners and was unable to advance to the finals.

Wooten was making her third NCAA appearance this year after earning first team All-American honors at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in the mile. The newcomer also helped the women's cross country team placed 20th overall at the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships this past fall.
