GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's track & field team put together a strong showing on Saturday at the Colorado Mines Nature's Bakery Invitational.
In the field events, UCCS took first and second in the high jump as
Veronica Burney took first after clearing 1.62m while
Danielle Cormier placed second with a height of 1.57m. The Mountain Lions also placed
Morgan Barone fourth (1.52m) as
Josie Eder was sixth (1.47m).
The Mountain Lions also went second and third in the javelin with
Andi Harrelson beating out teammate
Kelsey Calhoun. Harrelson threw 36.81m as her team mate was right behind with 32.73m.
On the track, Molloy Klotz ran an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the 400m hurdles by winning the event with a time of 1:01.45. Klotz won by nearly four seconds for UCCS.
In the 800m,
Chelsea Martus also earned a provisional qualifying time as she won the event with a time of 2:13.18.
The team also dominated the 5,000m as
Katie Novak placed third as Abigail Topper,
Natalie Polei, and Claire Trotter came in fifth, six, and seventh respectively.
The Mountain Lions return to Colorado Mines next Saturday to come in the Orediggers' Pre-Conference Meet.
