GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's track & field team put together a strong showing on Saturday at the Colorado Mines Nature's Bakery Invitational.
In the 100m,
Deshon Elcock cruised to first place with a time of 10.62 seconds, beating out the second place finisher by two tenths of a second. The sprinter also won the 200m with a time of 21.57 seconds. Teammate
LaChristopher Smith notched a pair of third place finishes in both the 200m and 400m.
Elcock also placed third in the high jump after clearing 1.97m.
William Mayhew continued his strong season in the 800m, earning an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 1:51.13 while finishing second overall.
In the hurdles,
Matt Hanson placed second with a time of 15.48 seconds in the 110m hurdles as
Tristan Hinkley also took second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.73 seconds.
Field events were highlighted by William Ross, who won the triple jump with a leap of 14.47m as
DePree Kimber place third in the long jump with a distance of 6.83m.
In the throws,
Conor Bertles was fifth in the shot put, right behind teammate
Sheldon Downs as they threw 13.75m and 14.27m respectively. Bertles also took sixth hammer with a throw of 44.67m and was fourth in the discus (43.75m).
Kyle Rex also had a strong showing in the javelin with a fourth place finish after throwing 42.78m, edging out
Jake Goggins who place fifth overall with a distance of 42.01m.
Several distance runners also competed over the weekend at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational.
David Kimaiyo placed fourth in the 3,000m steeple chase with a time of 9:17.49 as
Corey Brown was sixth in the 5,000m after crossing the finish line in 14:56.84.
The Mountain Lions return to Colorado Mines next Saturday to come in the Orediggers' Pre-Conference Meet.
