Track & Field Posts 5 Provisional Qualifying Marks on First Day of Texas Trip

AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team opened their trip to the Lone Star State on Thursday with a strong showing that saw five student-athletes post NCAA provisional qualifying marks while competing at the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED | 98th CLYDE LITTLEFIELD TEXAS RELAYS
  • Junior Krissie Sanders put together a strong effort in the preliminary round of the women's 400m hurdles as she posted a season-best NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:00.22 that was good for 23rd place finish in the 33-person field and registered as the third-fastest mark among NCAA Division II athletes in the competition. In the timed final section of the women's 400m hurdles, senior Abigail Frey finished 11th overall out of 29 athletes as she posted a time of 1:02.85.
  • Competing in a men's hammer throw field consisting primarily of NCAA Division I athletes, senior Michael Roberts and junior Hayden Cuevas more than held their own as Roberts secured a 13th place finish out of 23 competitors with a season-best provisional qualifying toss of 58.62m while Cuevas notched a 16th place finish with a personal and season best provisional qualifying mark of 57.56m.
  • In the women's hammer throw, senior Savannah Jorgens was the lone Mountain Lion in action as she posted a 22nd place finish with a toss of 43.89m.
HOW IT HAPPENED | BOBCAT INVITATIONAL
  • Redshirt junior KJ McInnis had a huge performance in Section B of the men's long jump as he uncorked a personal best NCAA provisional qualifying leap of 7.41m to secure a fourth place finish out of 26 competitors in the event.
  • Senior Kyle Demos surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying threshold in the men's discus throw for the first time this outdoor season with a season-best toss of 51.59m as he placed seventh overall out 15 competitors in Section A of the event.
  • In Section B of the women's long jump, freshman Jillian Hennessy came through with a jump of 5.60m on her third attempt in the competition to earn qualification for the finals in the event and went on to improve her mark to a season-best 5.73m on her sixth and final leap as she secured an eighth place finish in the 29-person field.
  • The Mountain Lions had a pair of top five finishers among the 42-person field in Section B of the men's 100m dash with freshman Noah Brown claiming fourth place overall in a time of 10.56s and freshman Michael Ryan Cruzado securing fifth place overall in a time of 10.57s.
  • In Section B of the women's 100m dash, junior Taryn Fettig was the first UCCS student-athlete to cross the finish line as she notched a sixth place finish out of 37 sprinters with a time of 12.08s. Freshman Katie Jewell joined Fettig inside the top 10 finishers in the competition as she took ninth place overall with a time of 12.14s.
  • Junior Zane Bullock notched a season-best performance in the women's 200m dash as she clocked a time of 24.62s for a fourth place finish out of 50 competitors in Section B of the event.
  • The Mountain Lions had three student-athletes competing in Section B of the men's 200m dash and it was freshman Revano Plummer who crossed the finish line first as he secured eighth place overall out of 43 competitors with a season and personal best time of 21.43s. Senior Sebastien Jean was the 20th place finisher in the event with a time of 21.72s, while redshirt junior Andrew Muncy claimed 31st place with a time of 21.97s.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • With his toss of 57.56m in the men's hammer throw, Cuevas improved to No. 4 all-time in UCCS men's outdoor program history for the event.
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will be back in action tomorrow at the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational, while the distance runners will get underway with the first day of competition at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, Calif.
