PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado men's outdoor track & field team opened their season at the CSU-Pueblo Open on Sunday.
The Mountain Lions were led by the sprinters at the meet as DeShon Elcock ran to a second place finish in the 200m with a time of 22.11 seconds with
Caleb Simons right behind in fourth place in 22.41 seconds. In the 4x100m relay, Simons and Elcock, along with
LaChristopher Smith and
Tristan Hinkley won the event with a time of 41.66, just shy of the provisional time of 41.00 seconds.
Smith also competed in the 400m, taking third overall with a time of 49.33 seconds.
Tristan Hinkley also had a productive meet, placing fifth in the 400m hurdles (56.50) while also earning third place in the 100m (11.20). In the 110m hurdles,
Matt Hanson was fifth with a time of 15.67 seconds.
Jumper
DePree Kimber, who won the long jump with a distance of 6.97m while also taking fourth place with a leap of 14.10m in the triple jump. Teammate William Ross was second in the event with a distance of 14.51m.
Several distance runners traveled to Washington University-St. Louis Invitational over the weekend, which was highlighted by
Corey Brown running the 10,000m with a time of 31:09.40.
UCCS travels next weekend when they compete in the West Texas A&M Classic in Canyon, Texas.
