SPEARFISH, S.D. – After a strong second day, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's indoor track & field team capped off a memorable RMAC Championship meet with a sixth place finish.
The Mountain Lions scored 23 of their 59 points in the high jump as four athletes scored.
Danielle Cormier won the event after clearing 1.62m while
Veronica Burney placed third with a height of 1.59m.
Morgan Barone and
Josie Eder took fifth and sixth place respectively to round out the scoring in the event for UCCS.
In the 60m hurdles, Cormier also scored as she placed sixth with a time of 8.93 seconds. She also took sixth place in the triple jump with a leap of 10.96m.
On the track,
Molly Klotz placed fourth overall in the 800m as she crossed the finish line with a time of 2:13.47.
Chelsea Martus took seventh (2:17.94) as
Kayla Wooten was eighth (2:19.17). Wooten also scored for the Mountain Lions in the Mile as she finished eighth with a time of 5:06.16.
Aubrey Templeton took fourth place in the 5,000m run as the sophomore finished the race in 18:00.89.
The 4x400m relay team of
Jalen Jordan,
Bethany Johns, Martus, and Klotz posted a time of 3:59.47 to take fifth place.
Other top finishers in the field events included Eder in the pole vault as the freshman took sixth place (3.24m) and
Kelly Chamberlain placing eighth (3.09m).
The Mountain Lions can be happy with their results after being predicted to finish ninth this season in the RMAC Coaches' Preseason Poll.
Adams State won the meet after earning 130 points as Western State was second with 109 points while Chadron State took third with 106.5 points.
