GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's indoor track & field team competed at the Colorado Mines Joe Davies Classic on Saturday as
William Mayhew and
LaChristopher Smith won events for the Mountain Lions.
In the 800m, Mayhew ran another NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time while crossing the finish line first with a time if 1:55.36. The sophomore won the first heat by more than two seconds.
Smith took first place in the 60m for UCCS with a time of 6.92 seconds after finishing second in qualifying.
Also taking first place was the 4x400m relay team as they posted a combined time of 3:28.37, winning the event by more than ten seconds over second place finishers, MSU Denver.
In the field events,
Kyle Rex attempted the NCAA provisional qualify height of 4.67m, but was unable to clear the bar after making 4.37m on his final attempt to finish fifth overall.
In the shot put,
Conor Bertles placed second with a distance of 14.38m (47'2.5") on his fourth throw.
Corey Brown was seventh in the 3,000m for UCCS with a time of 9:05.28.
The Mountain Lions now look to the RMAC Championships, which will be held Feb. 24-25 at the Donald E. Young Center on the campus of Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D.
