GOLDEN, Colo. –Â
Veronica Burney,
Danielle Cormier,
Josie Eder and
Morgan Barone each cleared 5 feet, 3 inches, to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to a sweep of the top four positions in the high jump on the second day of the Colorado Mines Twilight Invitational. Burney was declared the winner on the tiebreaker as the only Mountain Lion to clear the height on her first attempt.
Cormier and Eder both cleared the 5-3 height on their second attempt, but Cormier was declared the runner-up because she used fewer attempts at the previous height of 5-1. Barone used three attempts to clear 5-3 to place fourth. The four Mountain Lions are the top-four ranked high jumpers in the conference this season, with Barone leading the conference with a provisional qualifying height of 5-5 from the Mines Alumni Classic in December.
Chelsea Martus won the 400-meter dash in an indoor personal-best time of 1 minutes, 0.43 seconds, and teammate
Molly Klotz finished in 1:01.16. Martus has the sixth-fastest time in the conference with an altitude-adjusted mark of 59.33 seconds in her first 400 race of the season. She already has the fourth-fastest 800-meter time in the RMACÂ after her performance in December.
On the track, Cormier placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with 9.16 seconds.
Jalen Jordan entered the record books in the 200-meter dash with 27.50 seconds, the fourth best all-time.
Kelly Chamberlain and Eder both cleared 10 feet in the pole vault for the first time this season. Eder placed second in the pole vault on the tiebreaker. Both Mountain Lions are tied for sixth in the RMAC performance lists this season.
UCCS returns to Colorado Mines' Steinhauer Fieldhouse this coming Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Division II Invitational and Multi.
