Chantelle Fondren finished No. 14 in the 1,500-meter run and sophomore
Molly Klotz placed No. 17 in the 400-meter hurdles in the preliminaries of each event at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at IMG Academy. The duo finished the season for the Mountain Lions in their second national championship appearance of the season after a trip to the indoor national meet in March.
Fondren was fourth through the first 300 meters with 53.81 seconds, but dropped to fifth with 1:14.38 during the next 400 meters. She ran more than two seconds faster on the third lap but slipped to sixth, and finished in sixth after her best and final lap with 1:11.99. Fondren was two seconds off of a spot in Saturday's championship race with 4:32.42.
Klotz was in lane one in the second heat for the hurdles, and made up the stagger with lane two in the first 100 meters. She finished in 1:01.96 and was sixth in her heat, and was one-hundredth of a second behind the sixth-place finisher in the first heat. Klotz was in a group of seven hurdles in the three heats that finished within one second of each other.
Fondren was the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run at the RMAC Championships, and joined Klotz as a member of the distance medley relay at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. Klotz was an All-RMAC Second Team hurdler and was fourth at the conference championships.
