Molly Klotz lowered her NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles and senior
Chantelle Fondren hit the provisional mark in the 1,500-meter run for the second straight week as the duo led the Mountain Lions in the Nature's Bakery Invitational today at Colorado School of Mines.
Klotz won in 1 minute, 1.99 seconds, for an altitude-adjusted time of 1:02.10. It's an improvement of .11 seconds from her qualifying time last week at the Beach Invitational and moved her to within one-tenth of a second from No. 3 in the RMAC performance lists.
Fondren won her race in 4:40.07 for a sea-level time of 4:32.56. She won by more than three seconds and the converted time was three-hundredths of a second off of her performance at the Bryan Clay Invitational last week. She has the top time in the RMAC and is the only student-athlete in the conference to record a qualifying mark in the event this season.
Melanie Diep and
Marah Guzman both finished in the top 10 of the 1,500-meter run with 4:59.33 and 5:02.60, respectively.
Alicia Lawrence and
Asia Bastian ran season-best times in the 200-meter dash, with Lawrence finishing in 25.90 and Bastian in 27.82. Lawrence also finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with 12.84 seconds, while Bastian was second in her heat and seventh overall in 13.63 seconds.
Sam Bauer finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:04.80 in a converted time of 11:42.62.
Ellie Colpitts finished sixth in her first steeplechase run of her career with 12:50.44.
Chelsea Martus placed third in the 800-meter run in 2:18.69, and
Devyn Palm-Trujillo placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run in 19:45.55.
The Mountain Lions will return to the Stermole Track and Field Complex next week for the Colorado Mines Pre-Conference Invitational April 29-30. UCCS will also enter student-athletes for qualifying in the Drake Relays and Penn Relays next weekend in the final tune-up before the RMAC Outdoor Championships May 6-8, in Spearfish, S.D.
