Chantelle Fondren ran within four seconds of an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the mile run and sophomore
Alicia Lawrence led the sprinters as the Mountain Lions competed with split squads today at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and Colorado State-Pueblo Pack Classic.
Fondren ran 4 minutes, 59.66 seconds in the mile run, which converts down to 4:37.46 for the NCAA championship event of 1,500 meters. She came within 3.5 seconds of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 4:34.00 in a fourth-place finish among the 36 runners. Fondren recorded her first qualifying mark of the outdoor season last night with 17:16.65 in the 5,000-meter run.
Alicia Lawrence finished fifth in the 100-meter dash and third among collegiate runners with 12.94 seconds at CSU-Pueblo. She was fourth in her heat and No. 14 overall in a large field for the 200-meter dash, and crossed the finish line in 26.58 seconds. Lawrence improved her season-best time by .12 seconds from the Colorado College Dual on March 19.
Asia Bastian finished second for UCCS in the 100 meters and No. 11 overall in a season-best 13.86 seconds.
Hayley Gillen provided the second-best time for the Mountain Lions in the 200-meter dash with 28.06 seconds, an improvement of .84 seconds from the CC Dual.
The Mountain Lions will be back as a full squad next week for the Colorado Invitational April 9. CU Boulder will host the meet at Potts Field.
