Fondren Qualifies in 1,500-Meter Run on Second Day of Clay Invite

AZUSA, Calif. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior Chantelle Fondren ran 4 minutes, 32.53 seconds and provisionally qualified in the 1,500-meter run as the Mountain Lions competed on the second day of the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific's Cougar Stadium.

Fondren's time was nearly five seconds faster than her adjusted mile time from the San Francisco Distance Carnival two weeks ago. Marah Guzman improved her time by nearly one-third of a second to 4:49.08 and Melanie Diep also broke the five-minute mark with 4:55.50.

Chelsea Martus improved on her 800-meter time this season by nearly two seconds to 2:15.23 and ran within six-hundredths of a second away from her altitude-adjusted personal best time from last season's RMAC Championships. She unofficially improved to sixth in the conference performance lists this season, pending the results of other meets this weekend. Martus finished fourth in her heat and No. 50 overall among the 118 total finishers.

Molly Klotz placed No. 19 out of 59 runners in the 400-meter hurdles with 1:03.28. She finished No. 15 among collegiate runner and ran .29 away from her time last week at the Colorado Invitational.

UCCS will conclude the weekend tomorrow with student-athletes competing at the Long Beach State Beach Invitational.
