Chantelle Fondren lowered her NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 5,000-meter run with 17 minutes, 16.51 seconds, on the first day of the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific's Cougar Stadium.
Sam Bauer opened the day with a season-best 11:35.61 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Fondren improved her time by .14 seconds from her time at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival two weeks ago. She finished No. 16 in the fastest heat of the night.
Makenzie Urban improved her season time by nearly a second to 18:26.90.
Bauer lowered her time in the steeplechase by almost 20 seconds from San Francisco and was ninth in her heat today. She finished ahead of five Division I athletes.
The Mountain Lions will continue with the Clay Invitational on Friday with student-athletes in the 800-meter run, 400-meter hurdles and 1,500-meter run.
