Chantelle Fondren ran 17 minutes, 16.65 seconds in the 5,000-meter run to provisionally qualify for the national championships at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival tonight at Cox Stadium. Her time was third fastest in program history and the fastest since 2013.
Fondren finished No. 28 among the 141 runners and was fourth among Division II student-athletes. It was her first outdoor provisional mark of the season after qualifying in four events in the indoor season.Â
Molly Klotz ran 1.01 seconds away from a qualifying time in the 800-meter run with 2:14.34 to finish second in her heat. She ran the third-fastest time in program history and was No. 16 among 105 runners in the field.
Chelsea Martus ran 2:17.08, and
Melanie Diep finished in 2:18.66 in her first outdoor 800 since 2014.
Diep led four Mountain Lions in the 1,500-meter run with 4:48.22 in a runner-up finish in her heat.
Marah Guzman finished in 4:49.37 and
Makenzie Urban crossed in 4:50.81.
Sam Bauer ran 11:55.54 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in her first steeple finish of the season.
UCCS will continue action in the Distance Carnival tomorrow. Fondren will race at 11:20 a.m., MDT, in the mile, while Klotz will run in the afternoon in the 400-meter dash and hurdles.
