SAN FRANCISCO -
David Kimaiyo ran 14 minutes, 40.36 seconds in the 5,000-meter run and
Kyle McCloskey crossed the finish line in 3:54.63 in the 1,500-meter run as the duo ran top five times in program history in each event at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. Kimaiyo's time is third in program records and three seconds away from an NCAA provisional qualifying time while McCloskey's time is fourth in UCCS history.
Kimaiyo finished second in his heat, which featured eight Division I runners. He was the top Division II runner by more than three seconds. Kimaiyo finished No. 38 in the field of 202 runners and paced 13 Mountain Lions who ran in the seven heats.
Corey Brown broke the 15-minute mark and was second among UCCS finishers with 14:56.22 and finished fifth in his heat and No. 65 overall.
McCloskey placed fifth in his heat and was six-hundredths of a second behind Portland State's Ben Richardson for the No. 4 spot. He improved his time 1.25 seconds from the Occidental Distance Carnival last month and came within three seconds of a provisional time.
Travis Anderson ran 4:03.63 in his first 1,500-meter run of the season.
Jarrett Eller ran 33:07.32 in his first outdoor 10,000-meter run of his career and
Mitch Klomp finished in 34:07.06.
The distance runners will travel back to Colorado Springs this weekend while the sprinters and jumpers will be at the Colorado State-Pueblo Pack Classic tomorrow.
