GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's indoor track & field team got off to a strong start to the season, competing at the Colorado Mines Alumni Classic & Multi on Thursday and Friday.
In Thursday's action,
Kyle Rex placed 11th in a field of 22 athletes in the heptathlon, earning a combined score of 4,582 points for the Mountain Lions.
On Friday, sprinter
Tristan Hinkley was the top finisher for the Mountain Lions, taking first place in the 200m with a time of 23.54 seconds, winning the second heat for UCCS. Fellow freshman
Cyrus Ford placed fourth with a time of 24.39 seconds.
In the 400m, sophomore
Caleb Simons finished fourth overall after taking second in the first heat with a time of 52.43 seconds.
In the field events,
Deshon Elcock placed fifth in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.93m as
DePree Kimber was third in the triple jump with a distance of 14.47m while also taking fourth in the long jump with a leap of 7.11m.
UCCS is off until after the holiday break when they return to the Steinhauer Fieldhouse at Colorado Mines to take part in the Twilight Invitational on Jan. 20-21.
