GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's indoor track & field team started their season Thursday afternoon at Colorado Mines' Alumni Classic & Multi.
Day One saw the Mountain Lions'
Veronica Burney take 14
th place in the pentathlon, setting a new program record with a total of 3,047 points, breaking the previous record mark of 3,009 points which was set by Lauren Roberts in 2012. The junior's point total is slightly less than 250 points off the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard.
Her other marks in the pentathlon included 9.22 seconds in the 60m, 1.64m in the high jump, 7.54m in the shot put, 4.83m in the long jump, and a time of 2:45.13 in the 800m.
Teammate
Danielle Cormier also set a program record in the 60m hurdles in the heptathlon competition with a time of 9.07 seconds, breaking the previous best mark of 9.86 seconds that was set by Ailena McDonald in 2012.
Cormier placed 16
th overall with a score of 2,806 as teammate
Rylee Ries took 18
th with 2,712 points.
UCCS is back in action Friday in Day Two at Steinhauer Fieldhouse with action starting at 10 a.m.
