GOLDEN, Colo. –
Chantelle Fondren provisionally qualified in the mile run and won by more than nine seconds to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs at the Colorado Mines Twilight Meet today at Steinhauer Fieldhouse. She won in 5 minutes, 10.64 seconds and her qualifying time will be 4:58.41 after altitude and track side adjustments.
Fondren crossed the finish line more than 13 seconds ahead of the nearest collegiate runner. She cut nearly seven seconds off of her mile time from the December meet at Colorado Mines and is No. 11 in Division II and third in the RMAC performance lists.
Melanie Diep finished third among college runners and fourth overall with 5:25.03, and is eighth in the conference with an adjusted time of 5:12.23.Â
Makenzie Urban ran 5:32.04 for a No. 6 finish in the overall results.
Natalie Polei led three Mountain Lions in the 3,000-meter run with 11:07.06 to finish fifth. She is No. 13 in the conference this season when her time is adjusted down to 10:49.52.
The Mountain Lions will return to Colorado Mines next weekend for the Division II Invitational.
