GOLDEN, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs freshman
Molly Klotz finished second in the 400-meter hurdles but didn't improve on her NCAA qualifying time as the Mountain Lions competed at the Colorado School of Mines Last Chance Meet at the Stermole Track and Field Complex.
Sam Bauer placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as the duo represented UCCS today.
Klotz ran a raw time of 1 minute, 3.08 seconds for an altitude-adjusted time of 1:03.19. She is unofficially No. 28 in the Division II performance lists and will be keeping aware of the declarations for the national championships to see if she advances. The NCAA accepted 20 hurdlers in the event last season, although the number will likely adjust up or down depending on the number of entries in the other events.
Bauer finished sixth with an unadjusted time of 11:58.59 for an adjusted 11:36.60. She was fifth among college runners in the field. Bauer ran a season-best adjusted time of 11:24.81 at the Colorado Invitational on April 11.
The NCAA will accept declarations for the national championships until Monday at 11 a.m., MDT, meaning a student-athlete that intends to compete must be declared at the time (an athlete may not declare to compete if injured or qualified in more events than able to successfully compete in all of them). The NCAA will announce the championship field by 4 p.m., MDT, on Tuesday.
