PUEBLO, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs freshman
Molly Klotz improved on her program-record provisional time in the 400-meter hurdles to lead three Mountain Lions who qualified for the finals in the second day of the 2015 RMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Klotz,
Jessica Todd and
Alicia Lawrence will each compete in their events again on the final day of the championships on Sunday.
Klotz finished with the fifth-fastest time in the preliminaries with a raw time of 1 minute, 1.80 seconds. She unofficially moved up to No. 26 in the Division II performance lists with a sea level time of 1:01.91 and an improvement of two-tenths of a second on her program record from last month. Todd also qualified for the conference finals with a time of 1:04.34 in a third-place finish in her heat and the eighth-fastest time overall. The two Mountain Lions will compete in the finals at 12:40 p.m., on Sunday.
Lawrence ran her fastest 200-meter time of the season to qualify for Sunday's final with a raw time of 25.07 seconds to place fifth overall. Gantt finished two spots out of the finals with 25.74 seconds.
Sarah Treese and
Sam Bauer finished No. 12 and No. 13, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in the only championship track event of the day. The field was ready to start when a series of lightning strikes prompted a two-hour delay. Treese ran 11:48.51 for an altitude-adjusted time of 11:32.51, while Bauer finished in 11:59.36 for a sea level time of 11:43.11.
The Mountain Lions will conclude the conference championships on Sunday at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl. The schedule was moved an hour earlier, which means the first event to feature UCCS will be the 4x100-meter relay at 11:05 a.m.
