GUNNISON, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's track and field team won the 4x400-meter relay while
Jessica Todd and
Sam Bauer finished second in their respective events at the Western State Alumni Open today in the Mountaineer Fieldhouse.
Todd ran the leadoff leg on the relay team and handed off to
Chelsea Martus.
Amber McAfee handed off to anchor leg
Molly Klotz, who clinched a victory of more than eight-tenths of a second against the home team Western State. The time of 4 minutes, 0.83 seconds was a fieldhouse record in the second meet in the new facility.
Todd finished the open 400-meter dash in 1:01.18 for her second-place performance, her best placing in an individual race this season.
Hayley Gillen finished 1:05.43 in the same event to place fourth.
Bauer was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run with 11:15.21, one spot ahead of teammate
Sarah Treese's time of 11:20.67. Bauer will rank among the top 20 times in the RMAC in her first 3K race of the season.
Alicia Lawrence and Tacey Divittorio both advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash and Lawrence led the duo in the final with 8.09 seconds in fifth. Lawrence also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with 26.98 seconds, and improvement of 0.45 seconds from last week.
Martus finished fifth in the 800-meter run with 2:24.17 and was followed by Klotz in 2:24.55.
Devyn Palm-Trujillo ran six seconds faster in the mile from last weekend with 5:49.93 despite an elevation increase of more than 2,000 feet and finished ninth.
UCCS will be in action again next weekend at the Grand Valley State Big Meet in Allendale, Mich.
