GOLDEN, Colo. - Chelsea Martus won her heat and finished second overall with 59.56 seconds in the 400-meter dash to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's track and field team at the Joe Davies Open today at Colorado School of Mines. Martus' adjusted time of 58.47 seconds ranks ninth in the RMAC performance lists going into the conference championships next weekend.

Martus is one of three student-athletes in the RMAC to rank in the top 10 for both the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run, after her 2:19.70 in the 800-meter run at the Colorado Mines Alumni Open to start the season. Today's performance was her first unadjusted time under a 1:01 in her career.

Molly Klotz finished three-tenths of a second behind Martus with 59.86 to finish third in the 400-meter dash and lowered her season-best time by more than a second. She is No. 10 in the RMAC this season when the time is converted to 58.77 seconds for the altitude and track size.

Hayley Gantt finished third in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes and improved her season-best times in both events. She ran 7.96 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash and is No. 19 in the conference performance lists when the time is adjusted to 7.98 seconds for altitude. Gantt followed with 26.64 seconds in the 200-meter dash and is No. 23 in the RMAC with 26.04 after the conversion.

Jessica Todd lowered her 800-meter mark by nearly a second with 2:25.60 in a fourth-place finish. She won her heat by more than two seconds in only her third 800-meter run of her collegiate career.

The Mountain Lions will return to Gunnison, Colo., for the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Feb. 27-28 at Western State.
