Dustin Dalzell led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team with a 70 at 2-under par to lead the Mountain Lions to a tie for No. 10 at the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Estrella. UCCS recorded an even team score in the final round today to improve two positions from yesterday's second round.
Dalzell improved by 12 strokes from yesterday's second round and tied for the sixth-best individual round today. He improved his career-best by two strokes today and his 54-hole tournament score of 226 was the second-best of his career.
Stephen Cook made four birdies in today's round and was 2-under par going into hole 9, his final hole of the round. A double bogey put him at an even 72 in his best round of the tournament. Cook improved by 11 positions today and finished in a tie for No. 32 with a three-round score of 221.
Kyle Southard and
Patrick Skakel both turned in scores of 73 to wrap up the Mountain Lion team score today. Skakel birdied on hole 13, the same hole he recorded a double-bogey in Monday's morning round, on his way to his second round of 73 in the tournament. Southard made back-to-back birdies on hole 12 and 13 and his tournament score of 217 was the best for UCCS this week and No. 17 overall.
The Mountain Lions will be off next week to prepare for the UCCS Invitational Oct. 13-14 at the U.S. Air Force Academy's Eisenhower Golf Course.
