UCCS Wins First RMAC Event of Season

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs turned in another round of 291 to win the first RMAC event of the season by nine strokes today at Buffalo Run Golf Course. Dylan Mitchell led the Mountain Lions with a third-place overall finish on a tournament score of 214.

Mitchell finished the tournament at 2-under par with a 73 in today's round. He improved his career-best score by one stroke in his first top-five and top-10 finish in his career. Mitchell is averaging more than six strokes per round better than last season through the first two tournaments of 2014-15.

Patrick Skakel led UCCS in today's round with a 70 and finished in a tie for No. 10 in the tournament with a 2-over score of 218. It was his second top-10 finish of the season after a fifth-place performance last week at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational in Amarillo, Texas.

Kyle Southard shot his best round of the tournament today with a season-best 71 and finished in a tie for No. 20 with 223. Stephen Cook rounded out the UCCS scores today with a 77 and finished in a tie for eighth with a 217, helped by rounds of 69 and 71 in yesterday's round.

UCCS finished with a 9-stroke advantage against second-place Colorado Christian. The Mountain Lions finished the tournament at 8-over par in the first tournament win since the 2013 RMAC Championship.

UCCS will continue the season Sept. 29-30 at the Western New Mexico Fall Invitational. Action will take place at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
