Patrick Skakel recorded rounds of 69 and 70, respectively, to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team to second place after the first two rounds of the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational today. The Mountain Lions are three strokes behind tournament-leader Wayland Baptist with a two-round score of 566.
Skakel finished the day at 5-under par and was three strokes off of the lead.
Dylan Mitchell finished the two rounds at 4-under with a career-best 65 in the afternoon round and is tied for eighth in the overall standings.
Zach Tripp turned in a 69 in the morning round and finished the day at 1-over with a 76 in the afternoon.
Stephen Cook tied with Tripp at 1-over with 73 and 72 scores.
Kyle Southard's 72 in the first round counted in the team standings for the round, but his 78 was two off of Tripp's score that counted among the top four scores for the Mountain Lions. UCCS turned in back-to-back rounds of 283 as a team and was able to improve from fourth to second between the two rounds.
The third and final round at the Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, will start at 7:30 a.m., MDT.
