10/5/2014 6:18:00 PM

Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs sophomore midfielder Michaela Mansfield scored two goals within four minutes of each other in the final 10 minutes of the game to lead the Mountain Lions (4-5 / 3-3 RMAC) to a 2-1 victory against Colorado Mesa (0-7-3 / 0-4-2 RMAC) today. Mansfield moved into the RMAC lead for points per game and goals per game with today's performance.

Colorado Mesa scored with 19 minutes left in the first half in its only shot of the period. UCCS put two shots on target but wouldn't be able to even the game before halftime as the Mavericks led 1-0.

The goalkeepers for both teams combined for 11 saves in the second half, and Grace Ramsden accounted for six of those in the half. With less than eight minutes to play, Hannah Levett took the ball in the midfielder and passed it ahead to Mansfield, who drove down the right side of the field and took her game-tying shot from 10 yards out and five yards off the right side of the goal. Her kick into the lower left corner of the net tied the game for her fourth goal of the season.

Colorado Mesa took a shot off of a long free kick in an attempt to retake the lead with under four minutes to play, but the Mountain Lions transitioned quickly and moved the ball along the right side of the field to set the ball up for Mansfield inside the goalie box. The Mavericks took two defenders to Mansfield and nearly succeeded in breaking up the opportunity, but Mansfield moved around the defenders and put the game-winner into the top left of the goal with 3:40 to play. Colorado Mesa earned a corner kick 27 seconds later and got a shot off that was saved by Ramsden in the final scoring opportunity for the Mavericks.

Mansfield tied the UCCS record for goals in a game and her five goals this season moved her into a tie for eighth in program records. She is one point away from entering the top 10 season records for points.

Ramsden's six saves increased her season total to 53 to put her into sixth in UCCS records, and her save percentage of .746 is ranked eighth. She still has the RMAC lead with 5.89 saves per game this season.

The Mountain Lions will remain at home to continue a three-game homestand for a 7 p.m., game against Colorado Christian on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The Mountain Lions defeated the Cougars 2-0 in the first meeting this season in Lakewood.
