Tripp and Skakel Lead UCCS in Strong Field at Otter Invite

SEASIDE, Calif. – Patrick Skakel and Zach Tripp each recorded two-round scores of 154 to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team a No. 13 standing after the first day of the Otter Invitational hosted by California State-Monterey Bay at the Black Horse Golf Club.

Skakel led UCCS in the first round with a 74 for 2-over par and finished the round with three straight birdies on holes two through four. He recorded birdies on holes 8 and 10 in both rounds and finished the second round with an 80.

Tripp's 75 in the second round was a four-stroke improvement from the morning round with three birdies in the second 18 holes. His 154 in the first day was his best 36-hole day since the season-opening Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational on Sept. 15.

Kyle Southard turned in the second-best round for UCCS in the morning round with a 77 and the fourth score for the Mountain Lions in the afternoon round with an 81. Stephen Cook and Dylan Mitchell alternated their best rounds of the day and the scores that would count to the team total, with Cook's 79 in the first round and Mitchell's 79 score in the second round.

UCCS put together a team score of 309 in the first round for 21-over par, but lost six strokes in the second round for a 315. The Mountain Lions are one stroke behind California State-East Bay and five behind Hawaii Hilo.

The third and final round of the Otter Invitational will begin at 9 a.m., MDT.
