Patrick Skakel recorded an eagle in the first round and led the Mountain Lions after the first two round of this week's RMAC event at the Eisenhower Golf Course. UCCS was third among the 10 teams and two-round score of 609 for 33-over par.
Skakel recorded an eagle on the par-5 hole 11 and finished the first round with a 74 for 2-over par. He turned in a 77 in the second round and stood in a tie eighth after the first day of action. Skakel is in position for his third top-10 finish in his fourth tournament of the season.
Stephen Cook and
Dylan Mitchell both turned in 36-hole scores of 154 to tie for No. 18, but the duo took two different ways to get to the score. Cook shot a 72 in the second round for the third-best score among the 54 golfers in the round, which balanced out an 82 in the morning round. He improved by eight strokes on holes 1 through 9 in the second round helped by three birdies on the front nine. Mitchell recorded a 77 in both rounds and finished with four birdies in the 36 holes.
Kyle Southard and
Zach Tripp traded places as the fourth team score for UCCS in today's rounds. Southard finished with a 75 this morning with a birdie on hole 4, and Tripp improved by 10 strokes in the second round for a 75 with a birdie on hole 11. The Mountain Lions are one stroke behind Western New Mexico and 11 strokes behind tournament-leader Colorado Mines.
The third and final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. Live results will be available, and fans can attend in person for free after Academy visitor hours begin at 9 a.m.
