8/14/2026 9:00:00 AM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs Athletics has announced the hiring of David Koehler as the department's new Assistant Sports Information Director, effective Aug. 17.

"David is a great addition to our Mountain Lion team, and we are excited to have him back at UCCS," said UCCS Associate Director of Athletics Sarah Meier. "Over the past two years, he showed us his tremendous work ethic, a positive attitude and a passion for Mountain Lion Athletics. He consistently went above and beyond, and we know he will bring that same drive and commitment to this role. David has a bright future in college athletics, and we're excited to see him continue to grow and help strengthen our department.

Koehler returns to UCCS Athletics after previously serving as a Sports Information Graduate Assistant from August 2024 through May 2026. In that role, he contributed to the department's communications efforts across multiple sports, writing game recaps, student-athlete biographies, end-of-season recaps and rankings stories. He also assisted with social media content, designed gameday, final-score and rankings graphics, and assisted with gameday operations, including statistics, scoreboard and clock responsibilities.

"My two years as a graduate assistant at UCCS were incredible. Sarah Meier and Tyler Tvelia were both amazing in helping me learn during my time here, and I'm thrilled to continue to work with them," said Koehler. "I couldn't have asked for a better opportunity than to represent this amazing school and promote its hardworking teams. I'm thankful to everyone in the athletic department for all their support, and I can't wait to get started. Go Mountain Lions!

In addition to his sports information responsibilities, Koehler also served as an Athletics Compliance Graduate Assistant at UCCS, where he worked with student-athlete eligibility, NCAA compliance and recruiting activities. He helped manage eligibility certification for 14 teams and assisted with compliance efforts involving more than 300 student-athletes.

A 2023 graduate of Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing, Koehler earned his Master of Business Administration from UCCS in May 2026.

As Assistant Sports Information Director, Koehler will assist with the department's sports information and communications tasks, including statistics, website content and maintenance, social media, game coverage and other external communications responsibilities.  He will serve as the primary contact for women's soccer, men's basketball and baseball.

Koehler begins his new role at UCCS on Aug. 17.
