Track & Field Closes Outdoor Qualifying Season at Loper Twilight

Kearney, Neb. –  The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team wrapped up the outdoor qualifying season on Sunday at the Loper Twilight, posting two NCAA provisional qualifying marks and a handful of event wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Abigail Frey posted the first NCAA provisional qualifying mark of the day for UCCS as she cruised to a time of 1:01.25 in the women's 400m hurdles for a second-place finish in the four-person field, while redshirt senior Gigi Douillard finished just behind Frey in third place with a time of 1:03.68.
  • Earlier in day, Frey galloped to a first-place finish in the women's 100m hurdles as she clocked a time of 14.22s to win the four-person competition with freshman teammate Collete Bibeault serving as her main competition as the second-place finisher in a time of 14.35s.
  • The Mountain Lions wrapped up the day with one more NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the men's 4x400m relay as senior Sebastien Jean, redshirt junior Andrew Muncy, freshman Hayden Fox, and freshman Joshua Gross completed the relay race in first place with a time of 3:11.44.
  • Prior to racing in the 4x400m relay to close the meet, Jean was the top overall finisher out of four competitors in the open 400m dash as he clocked a time of 48.25s.
  • Redshirt junior Kane Fobare posted a season-best mark in the men's shot put with a toss of 16.32m that was good for first overall in the 10-person field. On the women's side, senior Savannah Jorgens took second overall out of nine competitors in the shot put with a mark of 13.55m that was just one centimeter shy of her season-best in the event.
  • Jorgens opened her day by joining redshirt junior Grace Solarin as one of nine competitors in the invite section of the women's hammer throw. Solarin wound up registering a fifth-place finish in the event with a toss of 51.50m, while Jorgens slotted into sixth overall with a heave of 50.84m.
  • Sophomore Payton Rodgers was the lone Mountain Lion competing in the women's triple jump and she posted a solid mark of 11.94m for a first place finish out of four jumpers in the event. In the men's triple jump, senior Willie Tran was the top Mountain Lion finisher as he took fourth overall in the seven-person field with a leap of 14.30m, while sophomore Realiti Smith took seventh overall with a mark of 13.75m.
  • UCCS had four of the five competitors in the women's long jump and saw redshirt senior Chelsea Howard and junior Maylee Thompson claim the top two spots in the field with respective jumps of 5.74m and 5.64m. Redshirt senior Madissyn Moore claimed fourth overall with a leap of 5.35m with junior Zane Bullock rounding out the group in fifth-place with a mark of 5.23m. On the men's side, three student-athletes represented the Mountain Lions in the long jump as redshirt junior KJ McInnis finished second overall in the five-person field with a leap of 6.95m followed by redshirt sophomore Josiah Billington in third place with a mark of 6.93m and freshman Jayden Nohr in fifth place with a jump of 6.58m.
  • In addition to competing in the long jump, Thompson also participated in the women's javelin throw and bested her previous personal best in the event by more than three-and-a-half meters as she finished fourth overall with a toss of 41.13m.
  • The Mountain Lions had a trio of sprinters competing in the women's 100m dash with junior Taryn Fettig leading the group in second place overall with a time of 11.92s. A pair of freshman crossed the line just behind Fettig with Katie Jewell taking third overall in a time of 12.04s and Leiava Holliman finishing fourth overall in a time of 12.23s. UCCS' trio of sprinters opened the afternoon by teaming up with Bullock in the 4x100m relay and went on to finish first out of two teams with a time of 47.03s.
  • The Mountain Lion sprinters also took part in the women's 200m dash as Fettig claimed a first-place finish in the five-person field with a time of 24.73s, while Jewell took second overall in a time of 24.90s and Bullock finished third overall in a time of 25.40s.
  • Freshman Noah Brown was the first Mountain Lion across the finish line in the men's 100m dash as he took second overall in the seven-person field with a time of 10.70s, while senior Daryn Ofori-Kuragu claimed fourth overall with a time of 10.79s and junior Luke Trinrud secured fifth overall with a time of 10.86s.
  • Senior Brooke Peterson finished third overall in the women's pole vault as she cleared 3.69m on her second attempt at the height before exiting the competition with three misses at 3.84m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Thompson's toss of 41.13m in the women's javelin throw ranks second all-time in program history for the event.

  • The selected participants for the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be revealed at approximately 4 p.m. (MT) on Tuesday, May 12.
