Combined Athletes Compete on Day One of RMAC Outdoor Championships

PUEBLO, Colo. – The 2026 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships kicked off inside the CSUP ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo. on Friday with a total of five combined athletes from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team getting the action started with the first day of competition in the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions had four student-athletes competing in the first five events of the men's decathlon on Friday with each of them ranking inside the top six of the 15-person field after one day of action.
    • Junior Evan Atkin sits atop the field after the first day of competition as he holds a 10-point lead over Chadron State College's Courtney Williams with 3,810 points. Atkin opened the day with marks of 10.98s in the 100m, 6.84m in the long jump, 11.24m in the shot put, and 1.91m in the high jump before dropping a personal best time of 48.49s in the 400m to finish the day.
    • Senior Dillon Arvayo scored 3,699 points and sits in third place after the first day of action. Arvayo kicked off the day with a time of 11.31s in the 100m dash before posting personal bests in his next four events, including marks of 7.01m in the long jump, 12.27m in the shot put, 1.94m in the high jump, and 52.16s in the 400m.
    • Redshirt junior Broden Cahoon sits just one spot behind Arvayo in fourth place with a day one point total of 3,682. Cahoon recorded the second-fastest time in the field in the 100m at 10.87s to start the day and went on to notch marks of 6.82m in the long jump, 10.96m in the shot put, and 49.05s in the 400m while clearing a personal best height of 1.79m in the high jump.
    • Freshman Luke Masterson sits in sixth place after the first day of action with 3,564 points. Masterson registered a trio of personal bests on Friday as he notched marks of 6.77m in the long jump, 1.94m in the high jump, and 50.82s in the 400m to go along with a time of 11.39s in the 100m and a toss of 10.28m in the shot put.
  • Junior Maylee Thompson posted personal best marks in each of her first four events of the women's heptathlon and currently sits in fifth place overall in the 20-person field with a day one score of 2,773 points. Thompson opened her day by running a personal best time of 15.46s in the 100m hurdles before adding PRs in the high jump (1.49m), shot put (9.76m), and 200m dash (25.22s).
UP NEXT
  • The 2026 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will continue tomorrow with a full slate of action set to take place, including a slew of preliminary and final events along with the conclusion of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon. The track events will be the first to get started with the men's 10,000m set to begin at 8 a.m. with the field events getting started at 9 a.m. with the men's shot put and the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon both resuming at 9:30 a.m.
