COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Redshirt junior shortstop
Trevor Dale picks up his third player of the week honor after slugging five home runs to put him in front of all Division II hitters with 23 big flies.
Helping UCCS sweep the four-game series over the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers this past weekend,
Trevor Dale shined once again at the plate. The West Valley City native slashed nine hits in 16 at bats, with five leaving the yard. Dale accounted for nine runs scored, driving in another 11 for 20 runs of total offense on the series, adding a double and a triple as well. Dale set a new program record for home runs in a single season with 23, passing Zach Hall whose record of 20 stood for seven seasons. Dale leads all of Division II baseball in home runs and sits in a tie for second in all of NCAA Baseball as he trails just Tague Davis (Louisville, ACC) who has 24 home runs. Dale's 2.32 OPS on the weekend was tops in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, as he hit .500 or better in every game of the series.
Dale and the Mountain Lions gear up for a massive series this weekend, as the second place MSU Denver Roadrunners come to town, who sit 2.5 games ahead of UCCS in the RMAC standings. With the conference postseason looming in two weeks, the four-game set will have clear implications as the regular season winds down. First pitch of game one is set for 3 p.m. on Friday at Mountain Lion Park.
