  • Facility | Location: Mountain Lion Stadium | Colorado Springs, Colo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: UCCS 5, RU 4
  • UCCS quickly put the Rangers on defense as Jade Wilson won the first draw control of the game and sprinted down the field. Finding Julia Hoffman back-post, the Mountain Lions led by one just 30 seconds after the starting whistle. However, UCCS was quickly pushed back into their defensive territory and conceded two Regis goals over the next two minutes. 50 seconds later, Kyla Bieker connected with Lauren Sheets for the third Ranger goal of the evening, forcing the Mountain Lions to trail by two. Ellen Gernert checked into the game for Delaney Gnos after a UCCS timeout and gave the Mountain Lions some momentum, as Brielle Fannin found the net nearly immediately after and closed the gap to two points. The next four minutes remained scoreless until Sofia Watts deceived a Regis defender and buried a shot past Brigit Goetsch. Capitalizing on that energy, UCCS equalized the score to 4-4 with a goal from Ella Mills. Back on the attack, Allie Schell slipped a pass to Mills, who went on to smash a shot past Goetsch's stick and secure a 5-4 lead for the Mountain Lions just before the break.
SECOND QUARTER: RU 4, UCCS 1
  • The Rangers quickly equalized the game 5-5 as Rome Villani connected with wide-open Aubrey Benton for a quick shot past Gernert's left shoulder. The ensuing two minutes resulted in a slew of turnovers for both teams, until the Mountain Lions collected two green cards and gave Sheets the opportunity to score a player-up goal. Now trailing by one, UCCS barrelled down the field and possessed the ball around. Charlotte Fannin received a pass and turned a Regis defender just before firing a shot towards goal, but could not get it past Goetsch. With seven minutes remaining before halftime, Charlotte Fannin had a second scoring opportunity and secured the first Mountain Lion goal of the second quarter. Regis drew a free position not long after, but Krista Munsinger's shot was impressively blocked by Gernert and the score remained a 6-6 draw. The Mountain Lions could not keep the Rangers out of their defensive half though, and conceded two more goals before the halftime whistle blew.
THIRD QUARTER: RU 1, UCCS 0
  • Regis quickly got a free position opportunity as Rylie Maready drew a foul, but the Mountain Lions demonstrated impenetrable defending and caused Maggie Schipfer to turnover the ball. Back on the attack, Watts fired a shot towards goal but was unable to get past Goetsch's skilled save. After a six-minute scoring drought on both ends, the Rangers finally found the back of the net with a powerful shot from Bieker. UCCS answered with an attacking effort of their own, but a turnover from Brielle Fannin forced the Mountain Lions back on defense. With one minute remaining before the final break, Charlotte Fannin blasted a low shot towards Goetsch, but hit the post and ricochetted out of bounds. Unable to secure a single goal in the third quarter, the Mountain Lions continued to trail 9-6.
FOURTH QUARTER: RU 4, UCCS 2
  • Just 55 seconds after the final quarter began, Benton secured her second goal of the game by slipping a shot to the right of Gernert's shoulder. Allison Hoffman won the next draw control and connected with her sister, Julia Hoffman, but was unable to shoot the ball on frame. Success for the Mountain Lions came with 11 minutes remaining in regulation, as Allison Hoffman beat a Ranger defender one-on-one and smashed a shot past Goetsch's stick. Regis responded immediately with a goal of their own from Benton, securing her third goal of the evening and earning the Rangers an 11-7 lead. Gnos checked back into the game for Gernert with 5:33 left on the clock, but could not stop the ensuing goal by Benton to give the Rangers a five-goal advantage over the Mountain Lions. Allison Hoffman grabbed the next ground ball and barrelled down the field before lobbing a pass to Schell, who went on to connect with Josie Leonard for a stunning goal. However, Regis turned around and quickly collected a free position goal to earn a 13-8 lead. UCCS' last-ditch effort was not enough to overcome the deficit, and the Rangers effectively ended the Mountain Lion's four-game win streak.
