HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UCCS would take the early lead, with Bryce Peterson leaving the yard with a solo home run in the first inning, The four-bagger was the only hit of the first inning, with the Mountain Lions in control after one.
  • Trevor Dale led off the second inning with a solo shot of his own to double the lead for the Mountain Lions. Brendan Killeen would continue his hot hitting with a single, but was stranded. The Grizzlies would answer back, however, as the hosts led off with a single in the bottom of the inning, setting up Josh Parks to tie the game with a two run shot on the next at bat.
  • Both teams were quiet until the fifth, when the action heated up for both squads. UCCS began the inning with back to back singles, then Adams State committed a balk to bring home the go ahead run for UCCS. Matthew Shipley then singled to score the trail runner from second, who also moved up on the balk, as UCCS led by two once again. Bryce Peterson would then ground out, but it was productive as it moved Shipley into scoring position, with Nolan Oliver singling him home on the next at bat. Trevor Dale then came back to the plate to deliver his second homer of the game and give UCCS the five run lead at 7-2.
  • Adams State responded with a pair of doubles and a single to score another pair, but as the game headed for the sixth, UCCS still led 7-4.
  • Two more doubles, a single and a walk for the Grizzlies tied the game at seven in the sixth, as UCCS went to the bullpen for the first time to bring in James Harbision, who finished the inning without allowing further incident.
  • Brendan Killeen and Tyler Genrich both slashed doubles in the seventh inning to give UCCS the lead back at 8-7.
  • That was the final scoring of the contest, as Liam Whalen came on and shut the door for UCCS, picking up the save and wrapping up the 19th win of the year for the Mountain Lions.
