PREVIEW | Mountain Lions Head to Virginia Beach for 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships

THIS WEEK'S ACTION
  • Following a convincing sweep of the indoor conference championship meet a couple weeks ago, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's track & field teams are set to close out the indoor season on the national stage as they have a group of 11 student-athletes traveling to Virginia Beach, Va. to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships.
  • Taking place inside the Virginia Beach Sports Center, the two-day national championship meet is set to be contested on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14. A full schedule of the competition times for all UCCS qualifiers can be found HERE.

NATIONAL QUALIFIERS
  • The Mountain Lions have 11 student-athletes set to compete at this season's indoor national championship meet across seven individual entries and one relay entry.
Men's Qualifiers: Women's Qualifiers: 2026 INDOOR TRACK & FIELD SEASON IN-REVIEW
  • The UCCS men's and women's teams combined to record a total of 42 NCAA provisional qualifying marks throughout the 2025-26 indoor season. Click HERE to view a breakdown of each provisional mark and where they finished the indoor season ranked among NCAA Division II competition.
  • The UCCS men's and women's track & field teams completed a sweep of the 2026 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 27-28 with the men's team scoring 124 points to win their second consecutive indoor conference title and the women's team notching 157.5 points to hoist the indoor trophy for the first time since the 2021-22 indoor season. UCCS posted a total of 19 podium finishes at the indoor conference championship meet and had six student-athletes earn individual event championships, including Dillon Arvayo in the men's heptathlon, Josiah Billington in the men's long jump, Jake Hall in the men's high jump, Savannah Jorgens in the women's weight throw, Kseniya Nikanorov in the women's 5,000m, and Brooke Peterson in the women's pole vault.
  • The Mountain Lions broke indoor school records in six different events throughout the season:
  • UCCS secured eight RMAC Athlete of the Week awards throughout the 2025-26 Indoor Track & Field season.
    • Week 2 (Jan. 21): Krissie Sanders – RMAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week
    • Week 2 (Jan. 21): Payton Rodgers – RMAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
    • Week 2 (Jan. 21): Sebastien Jean – RMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week
    • Week 2 (Jan. 21): Broden Cahoon – RMAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week
    • Week 4 (Feb. 4): Savannah Jorgens – RMAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
    • Week 5 (Feb. 11): Krissie Sanders – RMAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week
    • Week 6 (Feb. 18): Michael Roberts – RMAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week
    • Week 7 (Feb. 25): Grace Solarin – RMAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
  • The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field All-Region honors on Wednesday, March 11, with 19 student-athletes from the UCCS men's and women's track and field teams combining to notch a total of 20 All-South Central Region accolades. Senior Michael Roberts finished the indoor season as the South Central's top performer in the men's weight throw with a season-best mark of 20.39m, while senior Brooke Peterson was the top regional performer in the women's pole vault with her season-best bar clearance of 3.92m.
  • The RMAC will begin revealing their postseason awards for the 2025-26 indoor season after the conclusion of the indoor national championship meet with the All-RMAC Teams and Major Awards set to be announced on Thursday, March 28 and the RMAC All-Academic Teams being released on Wednesday, April 8.
UCCS UNDER HEAD COACH ROSS FELLOWS
  • The 2025-26 season marks Ross Fellows' 10th season as the head coach of the UCCS men's and women's track & field programs. Under his leadership, the Mountain Lions have won a total of 21 RMAC Championship trophies (11 Indoor, 10 Outdoor), including the first indoor and outdoor conference titles in both men's and women's program history.
  • A 17-time RMAC Coach of the Year recipient, Fellows has coached a total of 132 RMAC individual event champions, eight RMAC Track Athletes of the Year, 11 RMAC Field Athletes of the Year, and four RMAC Freshman of the Year. The Mountain Lions have become perennial contenders on the national stage under the supervision of Fellows, earning 205 individual entries and 19 relay entries to the indoor and outdoor national championship meets since the start of the 2016-17 season while also recording 15 top 25 team finishes, earning 174 All-America honors, and winning six individual national championships in the same period.
  • In addition, UCCS track & field has performed well in the classroom with Fellows at the head of the program, compiling 66 RMAC All-Academic First Team honorees, six RMAC Academic Athletes of the Year, and 24 CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-America accolades.

  • Following the conclusion of the indoor national championship meet, the Mountain Lions will move directly into the start of the outdoor season as they will make the short trip to Pueblo, Colo. for the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational.
