COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team put forth a strong performance on day one of the 2026 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday as the men's and women's teams combined for five podium finishes, three individual event titles, and 13 NCAA provisional qualifying marks. After the first day of competition, the UCCS women's team sits in first place in the standings with 65 points while the Mountain Lion men's team is holding down second place with 26 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Brooke Peterson brought home the first individual event title of the meet for the Mountain Lions in the women's pole vault as she cruised to the gold medal in the event with a personal best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 3.92m. In addition to the 10 points scored by Peterson, freshman Colette Bibeault added three more points in the event as she finished in a tie for fifth place with a bar clearance of 3.57m.
- The UCCS men's team scored 13 points in the men's long jump competition with 10 of them coming from redshirt sophomore Josiah Billington, who leapt to an indoor personal best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 7.23m for the gold medal. Freshman Jayden Nohr also chipped in with three points as he finished sixth overall in the competition with a jump of 6.76m.
- Senior Kseniya Nikanorov pushed 10 points in the direction of the UCCS women's team with a huge performance in the women's 5,000m as she won the race with a season-best NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 16:40.69.
- The women's team racked up 18 points in the long jump competition as junior Maylee Thompson made an appearance on the podium with a silver medal after posting an NCAA provisional qualifying leap of 5.78m. Redshirt senior Madissyn Moore claimed fourth place in the event with a leap of 5.68m, while junior Paige Cordero took fifth place with a season-best leap of 5.59m and redshirt senior Chelsea Howard claimed eighth place with a jump of 5.38m.
- UCCS had a big output of points in the women's shot put as senior Savannah Jorgens, redshirt junior Bailey Young, redshirt junior Grace Solarin, and freshman Carley Malinowski combined for 17 points in the event. Jorgens paced the group with a third-place finish overall as she posted a personal best NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 13.91m, while Young also surpassed the provisional qualifying threshold with a personal best mark of 13.84m that placed her fourth overall in the competition. Solarin notched a personal best mark of 13.50m to claim fifth place overall with Malinowski rounding out the scoring in the event with a personal best toss of 13.38m that was good for seventh place.
- The Mountain Lions added 10 more points in the men's shot put competition with senior Kyle Demos leading the way in fourth place with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 16.55m. Freshman Cam Bruns posted a personal best mark of 16.21m to secure a sixth-place finish, while senior Kane Fobare tacked on two more points with a seventh-place toss of 16.20m.
- In the men's distance medley relay race, redshirt junior Enzo Knapp (1,200m), redshirt freshman Harvey Trevino-Patton (400m), redshirt senior Joseph Hamilton (800m), and redshirt junior Joseph Impellitteri (Mile) carried the baton across the finish line in sixth place with an NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 9:59.92 to score three points for the men's squad.
- The UCCS women's team also collected three points in the distance medley relay race with redshirt senior Molly Breuer (1,200m), freshman Michelle Headley (400m), redshirt sophomore Olivia Sargent (800m), and redshirt sophomore Madison Brosig earning a sixth-place finish with an NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 11:57.95.
- Junior Lilyana Delagarza and Maylee Thompson combined to tally four points in the pentathlon competition with Delagarza taking sixth-place with 3,171 points and Thompson securing eighth-place with 3,085 points.
- The Mountain Lions had five student-athletes advance through the preliminary round of the women's 60m hurdles with Krissie Sanders leading the way in a personal best NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 8.52s that registered as the second-fastest time in the field. Senior Abigail Frey posted the third-fastest time in the preliminary field with a personal best converted time of 8.84s, while Bibeault (8.98c), freshman Tristyn Buss (9.09c), and sophomore Payton Rodgers (9.13c) locked down the final three qualifying positions as they finished in seventh through ninth place, respectively.
- UCCS had four of the top eight qualifying times in the preliminary round of the men's 400m dash with senior Sebastien Jean leading the group at an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 48.07s that registered as the second-fastest time in the field. Jean was followed across the finish line by freshman Joshua Gross in third place (48.94c), redshirt junior Andrew Muncy in fourth place (48.96c), and freshman Hayden Fox in sixth place (49.14c)
- Just about an hour and a half after her impressive showing in the 60m hurdles, Sanders put her talents on display on the outer track in the preliminary round of the women's 400m dash and managed to qualify for tomorrow's event final as she clocked a personal best converted time of 56.89s for the fourth-fastest time in the field.
- A pair of Mountain Lion freshmen qualified for tomorrow's event final in the men's 60m dash as Julian Brantley recorded the third-fastest time in the preliminary field with a personal best NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 6.80s and Noah Brown posted the fourth-fastest mark in the field at a converted time of 6.85s.
- Two more UCCS student-athletes made their way through the preliminary round of the men's 200m dash with senior Daryn Ofori-Kuragu clocking a season-best NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 21.57s for the fourth-fastest time in the field and junior Zamari Burrell posting a season-best converted time of 21.85s for the fifth-fastest time in the field.
- The Mountain Lions also sent a pair of student-athletes through the preliminary round of the women's 200m dash, led by junior Zane Bullock with a season-best converted time of 24.97s that measured as the sixth-fastest time in the field. Freshman Katie Jewell joined Bullock as a qualifier for tomorrow's event final, posting the seventh-fastest mark overall at a season-best converted time of 25.12s.
- In the preliminary round of the women's 60m dash, junior Taryn Fettig raced to the seventh-fastest mark in the field at a converted time 7.72s to secure her spot in tomorrow's event final.
- Freshman Xavier Sutherlin was the lone Mountain Lion to advance through the preliminary round of the men's 60m hurdles as he notched a personal best converted time of 8.34s that secured him the final qualifying position as the ninth-fastest competitor in the event.
- UCCS had five student-athletes competing on day one of the men's heptathlon and all five of them sit inside the top 12 in the event standings after the first four events. Senior Dillon Arvayo currently sits in second place overall with 2,900 points after posting personal best marks across the board in today's events, while junior Evan Atkin is in third place with 2,852 points, senior Broden Cahoon occupies sixth place with 2,635 points, freshman Luke Masterson holds down 10th place with 2,446 points, and junior Spencer Shuler sits in 12th place with 2,348 points.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- UCCS recorded updates to the top five lists in the indoor record book for seven different events on day one of the RMAC Indoor Championships, including the men's 60m, men's 60m hurdles, women's 60m hurdles, women's 400m, women's pole vault, men's shot put, and women's shot put.
