- Final Score: UCCS 15, MSUD 9
- Records: UCCS (8-7, 0-0 RMAC) | MSUD (9-3, 0-0 RMAC)
- Facility | Location: Assembly Athletic Complex | Denver, Colo.
- All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions hold a 12-25 record all time vs MSU Denver.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS thought they had found the scoreboard first in the opening frame of the game when Quinn Medin singled, stole second, and moved up to third on a wild pitch. Medin came into score on a sacrifice fly from Bryce Peterson, but upon appeal to third was called out for leaving early. Mountain Lions skipper Dave Hajek would argue the call, but it would stand, as the Mountain Lions went scoreless into the bottom of the first.
- Noah Wicks would instead start the scoring in the bottom of the first on a slashed double to the wall in center, bringing home two runs to give MSU Denver the early 2-0 lead.
- An inning later, after the Mountain Lions went quietly to start the second, Brayden Oram took Jason Fink deep to left, extending the lead to 3-0 Roadrunners.
- The Mountain Lions took out their frustrations in the third inning, with the first three batters all reaching with a Tyler Buchman lead off double, Ruben Velasco single, and Quinn Medin hit by pitch. Matthew Shipley got the first run home reaching on an error to second, setting up back-to-back singles from Bryce Peterson and Nolan Oliver to bring in another pair to tie the game at three. UCCS wasn't done there, as the next four batters would all reach, or provide productive outs, with UCCS scoring eight in the third to take the five-run lead, 8-3. MSU Denver would pull one run back in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run, but UCCS still owned the commanding 8-4 lead heading into the fourth inning.
- Innings four through six came and went without incident, but it was MSU Denver that began to push back in the seventh inning, after UCCS furthered their lead with a pair of runs in the top half. Brooks Rasmussen made Gerrit Erickson pay for allowing two early baserunners with a three-run homer to cut the lead to three at 10-7, before Noah Wicks stroked his second RBI double of the game to center to bring in an eighth run for MSU Denver.
- UCCS would use their offensive prowess to pull away in the final two frames, scoring another five runs, and giving up just one in the final two innings, taking game one by a 15-9 final over MSU Denver.
