Throwers Notch Three Provisional Qualifying Marks at Last Chance RMAC Qualifier

GUNNISON, Colo. – In their final competition prior to the start of next weekend's indoor conference championship meet, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team had a trio of throwers post NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the Last Chance RMAC Qualifier.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Redshirt junior Grace Solarin posted a season and personal best performance in the women's weight throw as she finished first overall out of eight competitors in the event with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 17.43m. She was followed in the event standings by redshirt junior Bailey Young in fourth place with a mark of 14.02m.
  • Later in the day, Solarin and Young returned to the throws cage in the women's shot put and claimed the top two positions in the women's shot put competition as Solarin took first place overall with a mark of 12.92m and Young secured second place with a toss of 12.86m.
  • UCCS had the top three finishers in the men's shot put competition, led by senior Kyle Demos in first place among the 23-person field with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 17.00m. Freshman Cam Bruns took second place in the competition with a mark of 15.88m, while senior Kane Fobare secured a third place finish at a mark of 15.57m.
  • Junior Hayden Cuevas earned a first place finish out of 14 competitors in the men's weight throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 18.31m, while Fobare claimed third place in the event with a personal best throw of 17.00m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Solarin's personal best mark of 17.43m keeps her at No. 5 on the all-time program record list for the women's weight throw.
  • The Mountain Lion will enter the 2026 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships with a total of 35 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks, including 18 on the women's side and 17 on the men's side.

  • The Mountain Lions will return to Gunnison, Colo. on Feb. 27-28 for the 2026 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Both days of competition will kick off at 10 a.m.
