Track Athletes Compete at Colorado Last Chance

BOULDER, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team sent a small group of track athletes to the Ford Practice Facility in Boulder, Colo. on Friday to compete at the Colorado Last Chance meet with hopes of bolstering their positions on the RMAC performance list ahead of next weekend's indoor conference championship meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Redshirt junior Andrew Muncy put together a strong showing in the men's 400m dash as he clocked a season and personal best converted time of 48.65s to finish fourth overall out of 21 competitors in the event. Muncy's performance also proved to be crucial for the Mountain Lions' indoor championship hopes as he all but secured his place in the open 400m dash at next weekend's conference championship meet, moving from 21st to inside the top 10 on the RMAC performance list for the event.
  • The Mountain Lions had a trio of student-athletes competing in the men's mile race and it was redshirt junior Joseph Impellitteri who led the group with a personal best converted time of 4:09.06, crossing the line in third place overall behind a pair of NCAA Division I student-athletes. Redshirt junior Enzo Knapp recorded a sixth-place finish among the 28-person field with a converted time of 4:11.20, while redshirt sophomore Jonas Graff took eighth place with a converted time of 4:12.92.
  • Junior Tre Garcia raced to a personal best converted time of 8.55s in the men's 60m hurdles as he secured a fourth-place finish in the seven-person field. He was followed across the finish line by fellow junior Bryce Joshlin, who posted a season-best converted time of 8.59s for a sixth-place finish.
  • Freshman Olivia Clay was the lone women's student-athlete in action for UCCS on Friday, and she went on to post a second place finish out of eight sprinters in the women's 60m dash as she matched her season and personal best in the event with a converted time of 7.93s.
  • In the men's 60m dash, junior Zamari Burrell was the first Mountain Lion to cross the finish line as he took fourth overall in the 10-person field with a converted time of 7.04s. Junior TJ Nissen also competed in the event, registering a sixth-place converted time of 7.08s.
  • Redshirt freshman Jacob Kinne paced the Mountain Lions in the men's 800m as he notched a converted time of 1:55.82 to finish third overall out of nine competitors, while sophomore Jacob Silvis claimed seventh place with a converted time of 2:00.40.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • In addition to locking down his spot at the conference championship meet, Muncy's personal best raw time of 48.54s ranks fifth all-time in program history for the indoor men's 400m dash.

  • The Mountain Lions will have a small group of throwers competing at Western Colorado University's Last Chance RMAC Qualifier meet beginning at 11:30 a.m. from the Mountaineer Field House in Gunnison, Colo.
