HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS would strike first as Bryce Peterson got the season kick-started with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. The preseason all-conference selection picked up right where he left off last spring.
- The Tigers struck back right away in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of a UCCS error to tie the game at one. UCCS would limit the damage, forcing a double play to end the inning.
- The Tigers then took control as they scored eight runs on eight hits in the third and fourth inning, as UCCS faced an uphill battle midway through the contest.
- The Mountain Lions would begin to chip away in the fourth and fifth innings, manufacturing a run in each frame while keeping the Tigers quiet, but still faced a 8-3 deficit.
- In the final two innings, it was all Tigers as the visitors strung together six hits for six runs in the sixth and followed with two runs on three hits in the seventh. UCCS couldn't scratch out any more offense, falling 17-3 by run rule in game one of the season.
