Jean Topples Men’s 400m School Record at Potts Invitational

BOULDER, Colo. – After nearly a month away from competition, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's track & field teams resumed their indoor season on Saturday at the Potts Invitational and saw senior long sprinter Sebastien Jean make history with a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying performance in the men's 400m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Sebastien Jean kicked off Saturday's action with a historic performance in the men's 400m dash as he finished first overall in the field of 29 sprinters with a school record raw time of 47.23s. His altitude converted time of 47.34s also registered as an NCAA provisional qualifying mark that will move him into a tie for third overall in NCAA Division II for the event. The Mountain Lions' freshman duo of Joshua Gross and Hayden Fox also notched personal best showings in the event with Gross crossing the line in 11th place with a converted time of 49.47s and Fox finishing in 12th place with a converted time of 49.48s.
  • In the women's 400m dash, junior Krissie Sanders was the first Mountain Lion sprinter to cross the finish line as she secured a fourth-place finish in the 19-person field with a personal best converted time of 57.60s. Junior Lilyana Delagarza joined Sanders inside the top 10 finishers as she topped her previous personal best in the event by more than 1.5 seconds, claiming seventh-place overall with a converted time of 58.34s. UCCS' standout pole vaulter Brooke Peterson made her collegiate debut in the open 400m and posted a solid converted time of 1:00.88 for an 11th place finish, while redshirt senior Gigi Douillard claimed 12th place in a converted time of 1:01.24, freshman Bentley Fitzgerald took 13th place in a personal best converted time of 1:01.41, and senior Abigail Frey place 14th with a personal best converted time of 1:01.52.
  • Senior Daryn Ofori-Kuragu paced the Mountain Lions in the men's 200m dash as he sprinted to a fifth-place finish in the 29-person field with a personal best converted time of 21.75s. Freshman Revano Plummer crossed the finish line just behind Ofori-Kuragu in seventh place with a personal best converted time of 22.09s, while junior Zamari Burrell clocked a converted time of 22.54s in his debut with the team.
  • The Mountain Lions saw four student athletes finish inside the top 10 of a 27-person field in the women's 200m dash with junior Danaya Kinnard leading the group as the second-place finisher in the event with a converted time of 24.97s. Junior Zane Bullock secured a fifth-place finish with a converted time of 25.55s, while sophomore Payton Rodgers took sixth-place with a converted time of 25.57s and freshman Katie Jewell notched a seventh-place finish at a converted time of 25.64s.
  • Junior Brett Davis was the lone Mountain Lion competitor in the men's 3,000m race as he posted a personal best converted time of 8:16.03 to claim third place in the 15-person field.
  • In the open section of the women's mile, junior Emma Montoya was the first UCCS student-athlete to cross the line as she secured a 12th place finish out of 36 competitors with a personal best converted time 4:59.15. Senior Kseniya Nikanorov notched a 20th place finish in the first mile race of her collegiate career with a converted time of 5:03.73, while redshirt senior Molly Breuer took 26th place with a converted time of 5:09.08.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • The Mountain Lions posted updates to the top five list in the indoor record book for five different events on Saturday, including the men's 200m, women's 200m, men's 400m, women's 400m, and men's 3,000m.
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will host the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite on Saturday, January 24 inside the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse. Field events are scheduled to get started at 9 a.m. with the men's weight throw while the track events are set to begin at 11:30 a.m. with the women's 5,000m race.
